Schindler’s Factory, founded in 1937 by I. Kohn, W. Luzer, G. and M. Gutman, its original name was „The First Małopolska Factory of Enamelware and Metal Products” Rekord „Sp. z o. o. In 1939, Oscar Schindler took over the bankrupt factory and changed its name to Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik.
The plant produced enameled vessels, and the armaments production department was launched, where mess tins for the Wehrmacht, shells and missile detonators were produced. Oscar Schindler, together with his accountant I. Stern, developed the famous „Schindler’s List”, thanks to which he bought 1100 employees, thus saving their lives.
The history of Oscar Schindler and his factory is described in the novel by T. Keneally Schindler’s Ark, on the basis of which Steven Spielberg directed the feature film Schindler’s List. Currently, the Factory houses a museum devoted to the history of Poland during World War II and Oscar Schindler.
