The Polish Aviation Museum was established in 1964, originally it functioned as the Aviation Equipment Exhibition Center at the Krakow Aero Club, it was created on the basis of the exhibits collected for the Aviation Exhibition.
The museum is located on the grounds of the former Kraków-Czyżyny airport, some of its facilities include a large aircraft hangar, garage and storage facilities are currently used by the museum. In 2010, a new three-story propeller-shaped building was opened, housed in it; part of the museum exhibition, library, offices, cinema and conference room. The museum exposition consists mainly of items withdrawn from use by the military or state authorities.
Some of the exhibits found their way to the museum thanks to the exchange with other museums in the world. The museum is in possession of several dozen airplanes, including from the collection of Herman Göring.
